Colleagues,
Three strategies to decrease the number of notifications you receive every day: Strategy 1: Turn off email notifications
Strategy 2: Do not use email for synchronous conversations
Strategy 3: Create a shared “need to know” document
Three more tomorrow. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
If you manage your notifications well, and you never feel like you are being bombarded, please email me here and let me know what your strategies are. If you live with the onslaught of things vying for or disrupting your concentration, consider this:
What if we could stop 95% of the interruptions?
How can we do this? Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
The barrage of alerts, pop-ups, drop-downs, banners, bings, and rings is extremely harmful to our productivity and well-being. Don’t believe me? Take three hours with a pad of paper and pen, and nothing else. No interruptions. You will be amazed at the kind of thinking you can do and the clarity you will gain into the challenges you face at work and at home. What’s that? There is no way to have three hours of uninterrupted time? That’s the whole point. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
This past week was wild. I am writing this on June 2, as I sit with my mom in the hospital. Her surgery went well and she is recovering. One of the challenges is that she needs to be rehydrating, but she is too tired to drink water. The effective thing to do is to help her take a small sip every 10-15 minutes. Sitting here, I am able to do it, but the nurses are not able to. Why? They obviously have higher convalescence skills than I do, but they also have more patients and more responsibilities. Here’s the leadership lesson: When you narrow your focus, you can consistently take simple actions to help someone be better. I don’t need to be an MD, I just need to know enough and to be present. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
Mara here again! I hope you have taken yesterday’s email and given it some thought. If so, I would love to share with all our readers what you’ve taken with you from these daily emails. You can share your takeaways by emailing me here. As with every Friday, let’s end our week with reflection. Like I said Monday, there is a lot going on right now. It is hard to juggle everything at work when you also need to be present for yourself and your family. It is hard to focus when we have news story after news story of horrific events popping up on our screens. It is hard to balance it all. How do we manage all of this?
Where can you find balance in your own life this weekend? Where can you put off tasks and instead, spend time with yourself or with your family. What is not so urgent? I hope you have a reflective and restful weekend. Sending Sunshine, Mara |
