Colleagues,
This week: Five things to do to ease into a productive fall Could it get any better? Think about some things within the organization that could be improved. Maybe there are some processes that don’t work, or some people who need some additional skills. Perhaps there is a looming challenge (or five 🤣). Make a list of 5-10 changes that would improve the organization and your quality of life. Try and keep the changes to a reasonable level – not anything that would take more than a month to achieve. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
This week: Five things to do to ease into a productive fall Reflect on the emotions you have felt over the past year. It has been a crazy, stressful, chaotic year. There are many emotions, some of which we control and others not so much. For today though, think about some of the emotions you had (or didn’t have) around your work. For example, I remember thinking one year, “I love 90% of what I do but I am having no fun.” That realization led me to think about the pain points – the things that were dragging me down. Part of it was just the rapid fire high-intensity pace, but there were also specific tasks that took a lot out of me. What are some of the negative emotions that you experience throughout your work week? Just think about them. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
This week: Five things to do to ease into a productive fall Make a list of the tasks that you do on a consistent basis. Examples:
Make the list and just think about the flow or process that you use to complete each of those tasks. Keep coming back to these tasks and reflecting on how efficiently you do them. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues, This week: Five things to do to ease into a productive fall
Solicit people you trust for feedback. Having informal conversations is probably the best way, but you could also email people. Just pick 3-9 people. Here’s an easy script: I’m going to be very intentional about growing as a leader this fall. I have some ideas about what to focus on, but we all have blind spots, so I need your help. [It is very important to ask for help and to use the word “help.”] What are three things I did well as a leader this past year? What are two of the biggest challenges we are facing as an organization? [Or that they are facing in their jobs, or that they want you to focus on.] If you could snap your fingers and make me a tiny bit better at one thing, what would it be? If you’ve chosen the right people, you will get some good feedback. During the process, you are only allowed to say two things: “Thank you.” “Tell me more.” That is all. If you say more, you risk messing it up. We’ll come back to the answers you get on Friday. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
Next week we are going to look at five things we can do this summer to have a better fall. Following are some questions for you to reflect on. It would be great if you could ponder these things throughout the weekend, but even spending a few minutes today would be beneficial.
Have a great weekend! Cheers! Frederick |
