Colleagues,
MVP: Investing in yourself is investing in others Like many, I make things more complicated than they need to be. Last week, I was feeling burnt out (if you've experienced burnout, check out yesterday’s episode with Dr. Helen Kelly). I was in the mood to be creative so I began thinking of all that I could do. I’ve been wanting to learn how to crochet, but I knew that learning this new skill would take time and energy that I didn’t have. So, I went to Walmart (ew) and bought a $4 variety pack of markers. I don’t think I’ve gotten a new pack of markers since 4th grade, and I was quite excited. I decided to make myself a bookmark. After I finished, I sent a picture of the bookmark to a friend of mine and she loved it so much that she wanted one. All of sudden, something I was doing for myself became doing something from someone else and bringing them joy. I made my friend a bookmark, I wrote her a note, and sent it off in the mail. Investing in yourself is investing in others. I knew that I wanted and needed to do something creative, something that fueled my inner-child. Ultimately, it turned into spending time and energy on others, which made me feel great and purposeful. You aren’t wasting time doing “silly” things - you are acknowledging the child in yourself, feeding it, and allowing yourself to flourish for the good of others. Today’s Intention: Do something for your inner-child. Who knows, maybe it’ll end up benefiting those around you. Sending Sunshine, Mara
