What are your thoughts?

Colleagues,

MVP: Leaders are responsible for protecting their people AND their organization's purpose.

I left off Wednesday by stating that people were often right in resisting Big Change initiatives.

Let me clarify:
  • Change should be driven by those participating in the work.
  • The specific change should be driven by the needs of the organization as they relate to achieving the purpose.
  • Any prolonged initiative should include elements that lead to immediate improvements in people’s work at each step of implementation.
  • In the face of mandates, it is the responsibility of leaders to identify the elements of the mandate that are consistent with the needs of the organization and to integrate those elements into the real work.
  • It is the responsibility of leaders to protect their people from requirements that will not improve people’s abilities to fulfill the purpose of the organization.

I’d like to hear what you think.

I imagine some of you will disagree with me and I would like to receive some push-back on this.
Maybe I have become too cynical but driving mandates from the state or district level to make big changes, especially now, does not make sense to me.

What do you think? Am I being realistic and wise, or do I need to adjust my attitude?

You can email me your thoughts here.

Have a great weekend!

Cheers!

Frederick
