It's easier if I just do it myself

Colleagues,

Last week, I was out in the garden transplanting some very small lettuce seedlings when my neighbor’s two children came by. Of course, they wanted to help.
 
I knew it would go faster if I did it all myself, but how do you refuse the help of two bright-eyed and eager young people?
 
We proceeded to plant out the seedlings and water them. 
 
Five things:

1. Maybe it was easier to do it myself this time, but with a little more practice, it will be easier to have their help. 
2. Developing someone else’s capacities is never a waste of time.
3. The kids are now invested in the garden. Maybe they will be able to help care for it in July when I’m gone.
4. The spacing of the seedlings wasn’t what I would have done, but it was good enough. When we delegate, we need to know that people may not do it exactly our way and that’s okay.
5. Their young fingers were better suited than mine to handle the seedlings. Just because I know what to do doesn’t actually mean I was the best at doing it!
