MVP: If you have your phone with you, you will use it. Using your phone when others are present degrades the experience we have with them.
 
I subscribe to a monthly email list on marketing (link). This month, there was a summary of research on small groups and phones:

Yes, the study was about strangers, but think about these two things:

1. People who had their phones used their phones.
2. People who did not use their phones were happier with the interactions.

 
In other words, this wasn’t about who you were with, it was about whether you had your phone or not and what impact that had on your satisfaction.
 
Today’s intention: When you are checking in on the people you serve, leave your phone in your office! You will be happier, people will feel more valued, and you will be a better leader.
