Colleagues,
On Monday I asked readers to send me their favorite quotes, and many did. If you want to be inspired, you can read them here. The quotes are great, but they aren’t what I was looking for. What I actually wanted was to hear which of my quotes or sayings have most resonated with you. Like “A-B” or “problems not symptoms.” Several reasons would explain the mix-up:
In this case it was probably number two, but number three is the thing that resonates with me. What is culture, or leadership, or change? People vary in how they define these things, and so they vary in their expectations. Reflect on this: If others have different interpretations on what leadership is, how do we know what they expect from us? There are so many fundamental leadership and organizational concepts for which we lack a common understanding. Common language is one of the prerequisites for effectively working together. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues, Mara here! Tomorrow we will reflect on Monday's request of asking you all to share your favorite quotes with Frederick. Today, let's just enjoy some of the quotes that were shared! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Small interactions that we may not think anything of have an on impact on our relationships with others. Remember, those who don't listen to their people will eventually be surrounded with those who have nothing to say. "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." "Wait, why are we doing this?" More on all of this tomorrow.
Sending sunshine, Mara Colleagues,
Yesterday we talked about manifesting a culture through your halo. One of the challenges is that our own emotions can undermine the culture we want to build. All these emotions can influence our halo, and therefore others:
How do we keep our halo projecting what we want instead of how we feel? By being aware and being intentional. That is the whole point of reading this email each morning. It is a chance to check in with yourself and to be intentional about your leadership. We don’t need to hide who we are and what we are feeling. Vulnerability is a powerful leadership trait. Our challenge is to understand and accept our emotions, but to be able to express them in a way that is consistent with the culture we want to create. Check in with yourself. What are you feeling? If your feelings aren’t what you want to project, think about the things that do make you feel the way you want your culture to be. Hang on to them and let them feed your halo today. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues, In case you didn’t email me your favorite quotes yesterday, here’s the magic button: Several weeks ago I was working with some assistant principals on how to influence school culture. The absolute simplest thing to do is to understand this: You attract what you project. All of us, whether we are trying or not, exude a halo.
Colleagues, The last two weeks we celebrated the “birthday” of the daily email. The reason I decided to run with two weeks of reprints was that they all felt so relevant. I wanted to remind us that the same practices that helped us get through a pandemic are the same practices that we need to continue with. Today I have a request. Someone asked me to put together a collection of my “greatest quotes” or ideas. They wanted to be able to print them out and stick them on the wall. Mara and I are going to work on pairing ideas with images to make something attractive for you, but we need your help. PLEASE just click on the button below! It will open an email reply in which you can type 1-3 phrases or ideas that you would love to see on a poster. That’s it. If you find value in the daily email, please click that button, and share your favorite quotes, phrases, and ideas with us. We will try and get the top five out by the end of April. Today is my birthday, so this will be a great present for me 🤣 Cheers!
