Colleagues,
Note: If you aren’t familiar with SWOT and stop-start-continue-consider, go listen to episode 276 of The Assistant Principal Podcast. Last week I facilitated a strategic planning session. The team had already identified their priorities for the school year, but I wanted to help them move from big picture thinking to granular level acting. We began by doing a brief SWOT on the team. This served as a touch point for the rest of the day. We examined each initiative in four ways:
We then identified two barriers that impacted all of the initiatives and asked why. This helped us uncover the things the team could impact and let go of the things they couldn’t. The team completed a stop-start-continue-consider collectively, and then each person did one for themselves. The end result was clarity for each individual on what they needed to be focused on, daily, and what they could let go of. So, are your strategic priorities something people are acting on each day? If not, feel free to reach out and I’ll share the very simple agenda and materials. Cheers! Frederick
