Colleagues, MVP: Creating opportunities for people to contribute in meaningful ways is critical. A few weeks ago I asked you to share questions, stories, or thoughts on culture with me. One reader wrote: As far as culture, my main frustration is a lack of initiative I notice in some of our adult, professional faculty members... Behaviors like not arriving on time for a duty, being unwilling to contact parents (or reply to parent contacts), and walking past litter on the hallway floor are my frustration. My question is how to make it the norm in our school to be proactive and to take initiative? My first thought: Opportunity precedes investment. When people know that their actions can make things better (opportunity), they are more likely to make the effort (investment). Does this mean if people aren’t “making the effort” it’s because they don’t believe they have the power to make the situation better? I go more deeply into this in today’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast. Thanks again to IXL for sponsoring today’s episode. Cheers!
Frederick
