Who is Ivy Lee?

One of my Now + Next leaders shared this article with me about the Ivy Lee method.

The full article is on James Clear’s website and I suggest investing five minutes in reading it. Clear is the author of Atomic Habits.

The method is simple:

• At the end of each day, write down the six most important things to get done the next day
• At the beginning of each day, begin working on the first thing and don’t stop until it is done
• Then move to the next thing on the list
• At the end of the day, anything not complete goes onto the next day’s list

This is a very simple way to focus on priorities, but it has a couple flaws.

The technique was developed in 1918 and does not account for the modern work environment. Tomorrow I will make some suggestions on how to adapt the Ivy Lee method to modern times.
