​Our family has been dealing with a crisis. It’s been a week as I write this, it will be another week by the time you read it.

My wonderful New Year’s intentions feel like childhood dreams. We are just trying to survive and figure things out one day at a time. Tomorrow is too far away. Today demands all the attention.

Please don’t feel sorry for us. You have probably already been through times like this and will probably see them again. That is life. We are going along okay, and then, boom, something happens.

A couple things to think about:

• When your family demands most of your attention, what becomes essential in your leadership?
• What can you let go of and what can you hand off?
• If you sacrifice your health to get through the situation, what are the long-term implications for yourself and those who love you?
