Systems and structures support sustainability

Colleagues,

This week I’ll be at the South Carolina Association of Title 1 Administrators’ (SCATA) annual conference. I’ll be keynoting at lunch on Oct. 22 and have two breakout sessions on Thursday:

A couple weeks ago I told the story about the cottage cheese shortage and asked for your thoughts on how we prepare for an unforeseeable disruption.

I appreciated your answers. There was a focus on leaders - helping them become resilient and adaptable problem-solvers. Not surprising given the audience. 😉

My thought is a bit different and might be surprising: systems, not people.

Why?

• Systems remain even when people leave
• Systems create the parameters for how people work and what they do
• Good systems make people’s work easier
