Colleagues,
MVP: We can “not choose” how we show up, with varying results Yesterday I wrote about choosing to show up as my best self when visiting Helene relief efforts in Asheville. I was back on site the next day. I was tired and hadn’t slept well. I had a lot on my mind and Pam and I were bringing food to the volunteers. As we rolled into the operation site, I realized there were some priorities that I needed to talk with Lance about. By the time we got the food out and set up, I had become fixated on what we needed to talk about. In short, I became task focused. I slipped into urgent leader mode. Worst of all, I made no intentional choice about how I would show up. I was just on autopilot in each interaction. During the day I interacted with a lot of people. In some cases I intentionally brought my best presence, but there were more times when I did not make a choice. The growth opportunity for me is not to show up more consistently, rather it is to make the choice more consistently. Thanks again to IXL for sponsoring today’s episode. Cheers! Frederick
