Learn and move on

​You might remember from 2 weeks ago when I talked about getting into a wreck in my Ford Maverick truck. This week, I want to reflect on that experience and share some leadership insights that will apply to any and all organizations.  

Reflection #1: Weigh the risk versus reward and make the best decision you can with the information you have at the time. 

I didn't know the road was as bad as it was, and I did seriously consider not going on the road but I thought it was going to be okay. Prior to driving, I did think about the risk and reward in this situation. I didn’t think the road was going to be bad, and the reward of connecting with two leaders in schools was going to be awesome. It turned out that I didn’t make the right decision, but looking back, it was the best decision I could have made with the information that I had at the time. 

So, when you make mistakes, it's important to think back and reflect but it’s not helpful to beat yourself up about it. Learn and move on.
