Leadership looks like…

Colleagues,

MVP: You don’t have to be a white male to lead.

I read through someone’s list of 100 inspirational leadership quotes and a couple things jumped out:

• 96 of them were written by men
• The vast majority were white men

This doesn’t mean the person who assembled the list is racist or misogynist.

It does indicate a bias in our society towards what leaders look and sound like.

This cultural bias negatively impacts our ability to develop creative strategies because it makes it more difficult to develop a cadre of leaders who are diverse in multiple ways.

Recognize that leadership can look different, both in action and in who embodies it.
