I took my work too seriously and undervalued relationships

Colleagues,

In celebrating our 300th episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast, I’m reflecting on the relationships I’ve developed with so many people.

I wish I had been as relationships focused when I was still teaching at Clemson University.

My office sat at a T intersection and there were three junior faculty members (untenured) with offices at the same intersection. We were a very diverse group and we all got along extremely well. Except we never did anything together.

Our interactions were always with one of us standing in a doorway and the other looking up from their computer. 

I do not wish I had worked harder or longer at my job at Clemson, but I do wish I had taken more time away from my computer. Time to form deeper friendships with Allison, Faiza, and Nafees.

I took my work too seriously and undervalued relationships. I hope you can say something different.
