Good intentions

MVP: We can choose to show up as our best self
 
I invested this weekend with my son Lance and the other volunteers helping provide immediate relief to the Helene-ravaged areas of Western North Carolina (WNC).

Lance had asked me to observe and learn about their operations in preparation for a pivot from the immediate response of getting water and food to people, to the rebuilding phase of helping communities become whole again.

I made an intentional choice to show up as my best self, to have an affirming presence that would help people feel seen and valued. I was observant, gentle, and kind. I was also patient in asking questions and trying to better understand what was going well and where there were barriers in their operations.

This was me at my best, and the critical point is that I chose to show up as my best self. It wasn’t an accident; it was a decision.
