MVP: Real leaders treat people with respect

Every July I re-publish my series on the most important things I have learned over the past forty years.

Number one is:

Everyone deserves respect, period
This is such a powerful belief for two reasons. First, it frees you from trying to judge people, which is a quite taxing and useless exercise that most of us engage in far too often. Respect people because they are people and don’t worry about trying to decide whether or not they deserve it – they are human beings, so they do.

In a time when political “leaders” are modeling the opposite, we need to be even more intentional about giving people the dignity and respect they deserve by virtue of being human.

This week, go out of your way to tell people you value and care about them, and you believe in them. Counter the negativity out there with positivity in here. Wherever “here” is. 😉
