Colleagues, MVP: Not following up on training is counterproductive Another lesson from yesterday’s episode with Michele Matoon: Follow up! I used to be a basketball coach. My teams invested a lot of time working on layups, which helped us be very good at scoring off of fast breaks. Imagine what might have happened if I coached fast breaks in one practice and then never revisited them. Or if after games, we never looked at what went well and what didn’t. In the sports setting, this is almost unimaginable, but in the workplace it is commonplace. People receive training and there is no follow up. This lack of follow up not only undermines the training, it also communicates a value: growth is not important. What do you communicate to those you serve about the importance of growth? I’m happy to acknowledge Kaleidoscope Adventures as a sponsor of yesterday’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast! I appreciate their support and encourage you to connect with them if you are thinking about planning a school trip! Cheers!
