Colleagues,
Yesterday we had our family Thanksgiving with Mara’s new in-laws. Not sure what the term is for our son-in-law’s parents’ relationship to us 🤣 Tomorrow we are having “FriendsGiving” at our house. It is a combination of family and friends. We did this last year and it was special. It had a different feel from our traditional family Thanksgiving. I’m not sure exactly why – maybe it has something to do with the fact that nobody was there out of a sense of obligation or duty. People were there because they wanted to be. No matter how you celebrate, I hope you join with people who uplift you and bring you joy. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
With the politically divisive political climate and the generally chaotic state of the world, the holidays can be filled with tension in equal measure to joy. Take solace and deep breaths. We don’t have to let our national “leaders” dictate how we treat each other. Remember our common humanity, our common desires, and, yes, our common values. In the end, the most special moments involve us sitting down and breaking bread together. Today, you engage in the most ancient of human rituals. I hope you are able to feel connected with those at the table. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
The rest of this week I’m going to share something I’m thankful for and ask you to reflect on a parallel in your life. Gratitude is a powerful thing and we should practice it more than once per year. It may be cliché, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to support you and your leadership. When we make a difference in the lives of others, we are doing work that matters. I get to do that every day, but without you, my work would be devoid of value. Who do you serve? Whose presence in your life can you be grateful for? Cheers! Frederick Colleagues, In the second half of yesterday’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast, I discussed seven affirmations I’ve been trying out and what the impact has been. The affirmations are based on a video with Tony Robbins, which I have linked on my blog page here. The 7th affirmation is “Today I choose to win.” I write it, then I say it. The power is in the word “choose.” I face a choice when I say the phrase – will I believe it and win the day, or will I retreat and give up. And if I proclaim I will win, but then give up on a hard day, what does that say about my values? In a way it’s a gimmick. For me, it works (usually 🤣). Thanks again to IXL for sponsoring today’s episode. Cheers!
Frederick Colleagues, We are dropping the podcast this morning in hopes of giving people an additional morning commute to listen because we hope you are NOT listening to podcasts on Thanksgiving 😉. Today’s episode is very low key, no music, no production, just me running through the theme of motivation. In the first half, I’ll dive into three important factors of motivation:
If any of these factors are missing, motivation decreases. In the second half… well, you’ll just need to listen or wait for tomorrow’s email 🤣 I’m happy to acknowledge Kaleidoscope Adventures as a sponsor of yesterday’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast! I appreciate their support and encourage you to connect with them if you are thinking about planning a school trip! Cheers!
