Colleagues,
MVP: There is a tension between systems and relationships. Systems make it easier or more difficult to achieve things. However, within every system are people. And working with people is about relationships. When things aren’t working, it can be hard to discern where to focus. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
MVP: Systems get the results they are designed to get. If you aren’t happy with your results, change your system. On this morning’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast, Johnathan Cranford helps school leaders reimagine in school suspension. Thanks again to IXL for sponsoring today’s episode. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues,
MVP: To avoid taking others’ monkeys, we need to understand why they have the monkey. While leading a book study on stage 3 of The School Leader's Guide to Reclaiming Purpose, someone asked about an employee who will not use the technology to complete a task and always asks for it to be done for her by someone else because she “just can’t understand the technology.” Part of stage 5 focuses on not taking other people’s monkeys, so here are a couple thoughts:
Frederick Colleagues,
MVP: If you can’t (or won’t) grow your people, your leadership is not good enough. 🥺 I have done everything I know how to do to convince you to help the people around you to reflect. If you have not yet acted, is it fair to say you are not a good enough leader? If you haven’t helped your people grow, is it fair to say you are not a good enough leader? Being good enough is so simple. I hope you have embraced the challenge. This has been a month of focus – please let me know if it has been worth it by replying to this email with an answer to one of these questions:
Frederick Colleagues,
MVP: You can follow up on reflective questions – later. Sometimes I hear something in the answer to a reflective question that I want to follow up on. That’s fine. You can follow up in the moment by asking, can you say more about that?” You can follow up the next day, or later, by saying, “Remember that conversation we had yesterday? You said “x” and I’ve been thinking a lot about that. Could we talk about “x”? Cheers! Frederick |
