Colleagues,
Let’s close this week with something joyful. Reflect on the week and think of a small kindness you witnessed. Not something big, just something tiny – a smile, someone picking up something that had fallen, a cup of coffee delivered just in time. Now, smile. It’s not about the big things, it is the small ones that count, that add up throughout the hours and days. Finally, do something small and kind for someone today. Just because. Cheers! Frederick

Colleagues,
Yesterday I shared Chad Dumas’ four root causes for team dysfunction:
I think the first two are actually the most common. We make a lot of assumptions about the value of teaming and frequently forget to teach people how to function within a team. It might be interesting to ask people on a dysfunctional team why they think the team exists and what the rules are for how it operates. If you can’t do that, maybe reflect on a team you’ve been on and ask yourself the questions. If you have any stories or observations regarding teams, and you’d like to share them, I’d love to hear about them. Cheers! Frederick Colleagues, In yesterday’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast, Chad Dumas and I talk about the four root issues within teams:
Many of us will jump to the illogical resistance (yes, I have had that person on my team too 🤣) but it is actually very rare. We make many assumptions about why a team is dysfunctional, but I suspect we are often wrong. More on that tomorrow. I’m happy to acknowledge Kaleidoscope Adventures as a sponsor of yesterday’s episode of The Assistant Principal Podcast! I appreciate their support and encourage you to connect with them if you are thinking about planning a school trip! Cheers!
Frederick Colleagues, Today’s guest on The Assistant Principal Podcast is Chad Dumas. When I asked Chad why he does the work he does he referenced this quote from Bahá'u'lláh: “Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.” Wow. This is the most articulate justification for education I have ever read. “Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.” It is so beautiful. In the rest of the episode we talk about how to improve dysfunctional teams. The context is in education, but the content is relevant for any context, so tune in if you have frustrations with a team. Thanks again to IXL for sponsoring today’s episode! Cheers!
Frederick Colleagues,
The past six weeks have been horrible for our family - It is the worst kind of situation – of pain.
Honestly, the experience has dimmed my light. I’ll be returning to my home in the mountains of Western North Carolina tomorrow. And I have made a conscious decision to reignite my light, to be positive, and to be okay with being happy. Part of the suck of being in a tragedy is that you feel guilty about feeling good. But it is okay for us to find joy in helping others, in our work, or in a simple meal. We have so much to live for, so much we can contribute, and being joyful will amplify what we are able to do with and for others. It is okay to smile. Today, I choose to be joyful. Cheers!
