Colleagues,
MVP: Not taking care of myself is selfish. Today we kick off Cohort 8 of our Now + Next leadership program for non-profit, governmental, faith, and school leaders serving Western North Carolina! One of the most important strands we work on is resilience and self-care. The two go hand-in-hand. I know leaders who don’t take care of themselves and insist they don’t have time because they are taking care of everyone else. I’ve been there and done that. I get it. When I taught middle school, there were times I went in with a fever. I could barely function, but I “had to be there for the kids.” But the reality is that I was playing the martyr to satisfy my own need to be valuable. There are times to go hard and grind, but those should be moments, not the status quo. Tomorrow I’ll share four simple things you should be doing to build your own resilience. Today, ask yourself, “do I take care of myself?” Cheers! Frederick
