Am I oozing leadership?

Colleagues,

MVP: There are different ways to organize your day, but being intentional is not optional.

“As good as I am at helping people uncover their goals/direction, I really don't usually know my own!

Although I'm not certain not having specific goals really bothers me or stands in my way. I tend to just ooze into spaces and opportunities that seem right for me.“

Longtime reader, leader, and friend Adrienne share the above in response to a recent daily message.

My reply:

This is a two-edged sword, at least for me.

Upside:

• We can respond to synchronicity
• We can meet the needs of others
• We can capitalize on our own ideas and enthusiasm

Downside:

• We can chase something so far off trail that we get lost (my consistent weakness)
• We react and commit without assessing the value and the opportunity cost
• We neglect being proactive

The ideal for me is this:

1. Have a priority that focuses on supporting and growing people
2. Hold resources (time and attention) in my schedule to pursue things that pop up so I can “strike while the iron is hot.”

Most of us work in contexts that make the second point extremely difficult because, back to the first epiphany, there is always more to do.
